This here is the cover of the new Yo La Tengo album. Click on it to make it bigger.
Look familiar? It’s a tree I don’t think I’ve ever seen before (the out-of-doors confuses and frightens me, and wreaks havoc on my tender complexion), but I think it’s time for a field trip: That massive, awesome-looking tree is reportedly right here in Portlandโin Overlook Park, as YLT’s label Matador Records informed me in an email today. This cover shot was photographed by Portland photographer Carlie Armstrong, and will grace the cover of Fade, which comes out January 15 on Matador.
Fade continues the recent tradition of non-Portland bands shooting their album covers here (Handsome Furs’ Sound Kapital from 2011 is the last one I can recall; any others?). Yo La Tengo tentatively have some in-store performances planned for early next year, although Portland may not be on the itinerary, but fortunately a spring tour (and Portland stop) won’t be too far behind.

Overlook Park? That can’t be right, can it? I see a large body of water in the photo.
That’s grass. They manipulated the colors.
that tree is my jam, third favorite tree ever. I take the max to overlook just for that tree.
