Pix Patisserie’s Dim Sum Yum Yum

Eagle’s Lodge, 4904 SE Hawthorne, Sat, May 29, 8 pm, Tickets $3

It is time again for Pix Patisserie’s ultra-fun Dessert Dim Sum Party. Expect small, cheap portions of their delicious and artistic desserts wheeled around on carts from which you can feel free to gluttonously grab. They’ll be serving up their signature Belgium beers and dessert wines, so indulge your sweet tooth from every direction. Entertainment includes a dessert fashion show (these cakes and tortes deserve one) and Gong Show Karaoke, where you can be gonged off the stage in front of all your friends. If I had anything to do with it, singing “Son of a Preacher Man” would get you an automatic gonging, plus a kick in the ass. KS

Fat Kitty Falafel

33rd & SE Hawthorne, open daily noon-5pm

Rumors about Fat Kitty Falafel being the smallest cart in Portland may be true; nevertheless, there are far more fascinating stories to be told. For example, the story of its third week in business, when the owner forgot to anchor down the canopy and a strong wind blew it into oncoming traffic. Or how the owner relocated from Bellingham, WA in a political blaze of glory, leaving herds of stoned college kids hungry. Or how the owner used to cook at fancy restaurant in Harlem, and how his best friend is on the Food Channel now. The owner will regale you with these and more stories while he fries your falafel. The result: Just good falafel, with tomatoes and cucumbers, and cilantro or vegan tahini. It costs $4, and with the crazy stories, it’s worth it. EJ
