FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6

BOOKS—Actress Drew Barrymore has lived quite a life—childhood fame, alcohol and drug abuse, rehab, emancipation from her manager/mother at age 14—and she’s written a book, Wildflower, about how all that and other unique experiences have shaped her into the adult, and mom, she is now. SHELBY R. KING
Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing, 3415 SW Cedar Hills, Beaverton, 7 pm, FREE, all ages

MUSIC—With precise guitar work, charging melodies, and Dean Wareham’s delightful drawl and clever lyrics (who else rhymes “pentagram” with “diazepam”?), Luna’s perfect, deeply underrated dream pop will appreciably improve your life. Of all of the ’90s bands to be pulled out of retirement recently, they’re one of the best. Don’t screw this up. MEGAN BURBANK
w/the Parson Red Heads; Aladdin Theater, 3017 SE Milwaukie, 8 pm, $25-30, all ages

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7

COMEDY—Kurt Braunohler just jet-skied from Chicago to New Orleans in a life jacket that looks like a tuxedo in order to buy a bunch of goats (goats that, notably, weren’t even in New Orleans). Plus he’s stomach-achingly hilarious. As good reasons as you’ll find to check out Braunohler’s one-off set this weekend. DIRK VANDERHART
Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi, 7:30 pm, $15-18

BOOZY READINGS—Wordstock’s Saturday-night Lit Crawl ain’t no joke. The literary smorgasbord has a pre-party, an afterparty, and dozens of authors and events in Inner Southeast… all for FREE! So grab a booze and sidle up to readings at places like Dig a Pony, Morrison Hotel, and Mother Foucault’s for a night of drunken literary hijinks. COURTNEY FERGUSON

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8

FILM—In 1969, Sam Peckinpah’s great, controversial, and violent The Wild Bunch shot adrenaline right into the tired heart of the western genre. Tonight, the Hollywood’s got this classic on the big screen—and in 70mm. Following sold-out screenings of 2001 and Vertigo, this is the Hollywood’s third 70mm offering. Expect it to be just as much fun. ERIK HENRIKSEN
Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy, Fri-Sun 7 pm, $12

CHILI JAM—It’s the annual event that always kicks up a ruckus—the Mercury‘s Chili Jamboree, featuring 12 Portland chefs cookin’ up original chili recipes… and you get to sample and vote on every one! The winner will take home the highly coveted Chili Belt, while everybody boot scoots to country music from Denver, Portland Country Underground, and Tender Love & Care. Hot damn! WM. STEVEN HUMPHREY
