• It's been kicking around for a few months, but jewelry shoppers in the vicinity of NE Alberta might want to duck into Harlow, the brick 'n' mortar version of designer Ruthie Crawford's six-year endeavor. Described as "modishly elegant," Crawford got her start at jewelry during a crossroads in life, when she had a newborn daughter (the Harlow in question) and a breakup on her hands. Attributing her success to "her village of strong women," the work can now be found in 750 stores nationwide and in Canada.
• St Johns is about to get an interesting new shoe store. RoM Shoes is due to soft-open next Tuesday, with a grand opening scheduled for Saturday Sept 26 (2-6 pm). A family oriented spot that specializes in fair trade and offbeat comfort brands, they plan to feature a brand per month, offering special pricing and a highlight of its back story. Early word has them making some interesting picks, like the rebooted Yugoslavian sneaker brand Startas, OTZ—a Malibu-based brand that uses the oldest known pair of shoes as its design focus—and the sub-Saharan Africa-made Oliberté.

• Portland brand JBird Collective makes leather goods, but wait—it's not just wallets and totes! They just started to make leather sunglasses. They say they're "more flexible than traditional composite or metal frames, they flex more but return to their shape while maintaining the valuable feel and appearance of leather." They look pretty cool, too:
