• The sprawling, annual Design Week Portland festival is due for its fourth appearance, but for its fourth edition it's moving the main event to spring: April 15-23, to be precise. However, they're not leaving you completely hanging this fall, either, with a much smaller string of open houses, talks, and other doings scheduled Oct 10-17.

• Portland Sewing is in the process of re-branding as the Portland Fashion Institute. Part of their new look? Hiring Gretchen Jones (most recently of Pendleton) to teach a Fashion Forecasting class on Saturday, Sept 26 (you can still sign up!).

• These are exciting times in the deodorant scene, and I say that in complete seriousness—spend some time with Palace's apothecary department if you don't believe me. I've been defaulting to the Portland-based (and increasingly easy to find) Schmidt's for a while now, but the original format—jarred with an odd little spatula—is to weird for some. But they just introduced it in normal stick form so, you know, don't hold back.

• I realize the mourning period for summer hasn't even quite begun, but for those already willing to consider the holidays, ADX's annual, Portland maker-focused Gifted sale has been scheduled for Saturday, Dec 12 (noon-9 pm), and they're currently accepting applications for interested vendors, due November 1.
