Just in time for rising temperatures and sunnier days, Portland has a brand new surf shop called Leeward. Owned and operated by Lyndsey Lee Faulkner, it aims “to connect the community with the ocean and support surfers, shapers, artists, and designers that perpetuate exploration and inspire the creative process.” Along with the requisite surfboards, wetsuits, and drybags, Leeward will also stock a range of new and vintage women’s and men’s apparel as well as an assortment of apothecary items, publications, records, art, and ceramics that will help bring a coastal feel into your home. The shop has been open since March, but if you haven’t stopped by yet, the perfect time would be at their grand opening party. Plenty of refreshments will be available as well as a live performance from the Vernor Pantons, new artwork by Yasmina Dedijer-Small, and giveaways.

If you are mad as fuck that the clowns in the White House and Congress keep attacking Planned Parenthood, here’s a great event. Lille Boutique will celebrate their 10-year anniversary with Bodies Empowered, a fundraiser that aims to raise $20,000 for Planned Parenthood, with a fashion show exclusively featuring looks from Turkish brand Else Lingerie. Everyone involved is donating their time (full disclosure: including me) and every single dollar made at this event will go straight to Planned Parenthood. The fashion show is the main attraction, but also worth noting are the awesome raffle and auction items up for grabs from nearly every designer carried at Lille (including Stella McCartney, Eberjey, and Fortnight) as well as Elizabeth Dye, Seven Sisters, Gild Shoes, She Bop, Jupiter Hotel, Voicebox Karaoke, Pok Pok, Bishop’s Barber Shop, Urban Waxx, and more. Also! Else Lingerie designer Ela Onur will travel all the way from Turkey to attend the event because threats to women’s rights and access to affordable health care is a global issue as well. (Seriously, ITMFA.) Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison, Fri May 12, 6- 9 pm, $15-$50, tickets at lilleboutique.com/be

Crafty Wonderland Shannon Rowland

For the spring installment of Crafty Wonderland Art + Craft Market over 225 local and national vendors will take over a 60,000 square-foot hall at the Oregon Convention Center. The market will also feature a DIY craft zone, children selling their art, and Susie Ghahremani of boygirlparty.com signing copies of her new book Stack the Cats. Along with the art and craft vendors, several nonprofits will have informational booths, including Cat Adoption Team, ACLU of Oregon, and Girls Inc. “We believe artists should be able to make a living doing what they love,” says Crafty Wonderland co-owner Torie Nguyen. “And it is now more important than ever to support our community, small businesses, and the artists and people who have made Portland the wonderfully creative place it is known to be.” Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE MLK, Sat May 20, 11 am- 6 pm, free, all ages
