• Gone are the days of the annual “A Novel Romance” fashion show since founder Elizabeth Dye signed The English Dept. bridal shop over to the capable hands of Xtabay founder Liz Gross. But don’t sweat it, brides-to-be and other lovers of lace: The shop is throwing Take Me to Church on Monday, April 20 at First Presbyterian Church (1200 SW Alder), a bridal fashion show that celebrates the Dept.’s 10-year anniversary, and represents a great opportunity to see the latest from all-stars including Dye herself, Claire La Faye, Leanne Marshall, and more.

• The latest update on the opening of a second location for N Mississippi’s beloved Backtalk (on SW 10th, in the heart of the eminently shoppable West End)? While owner Katie Freedle originally hoped to swing the doors open in March, she’s now predicting a mid-to-late April debut. Look for the signature mix of really well curated vintage with upcoming clothing lines, excellent jewelry selections, and an inhouse designer or two (a la Alexa Stark‘s studio within the first location). • There’s a new kid in the city’s t-shirt game: Alejandra Margarita has an unusual process: “I create all my designs in pure makeup, liquid eyeliner to be exact. I paint with eyeliner and mix it with water and create designs for apparel. Once my designs are completed they are printed on garments in ink.” Here’s what the final result looks like:
