It's another sad food day for Portland. The American Local, the Division restaurant known for taking vegetarians and vegans seriously, will shut down on April 7, according to its owner, Jenny Nickolaus.

From their Facebook post:

"It is with mixed emotions that we make this announcement, Saturday April 7th will be our last service. For the past 4 years we have been honored to have what we consider the best staff in Portland and serving all of you who we count as our friends, family, and neighbors. Thank you for all of your support, encouragement, and the special moments that you shared with us."

The restaurant will be remembered as the kind of place that dedicated an entire portion of its menu to seasonal vegetable dishes, like roasted sprouting broccoli with turnips, garlic tahini, garlic, chiles and za’atar—which, it should be noted, you can still order for the next 10 days.

It’s also your last call to try what might be this city’s best cheeseburger. You have 10 days to try it, Portland, so show up and see for yourself why their patties are better than those at other joints.

Until then, TAL is open at 3003 SE Division, from 5:30 to 10 pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
