Today Kure’s Nate Higgins confirmed that he and business partner Nick Armour will open a new juice bar storefront in the Pearl next month, the company’s sixth overall.
Higgins says the menu at the Pearl will mirror that of his and Armour’s West End Shop, but with one key twist: In addition to offering hot rice bowls, hot cereals, toasts, soups, acai bowls, smoothies, and organic juices, they’re rolling out a protein shake/meal replacement menu, which will soon be implemented at their five other shops.
“In short, it's a three-item shake menu with high macronutrient content,” Higgins says. “Each shake has high protein, fat, carbs, and fiber, and is designed to take the place of a meal. These items, unlike the smoothies on our menu, will include calorie and macro nutrient info on the menu itself. Eating healthy on the go can be extremely difficult, so we've formulated a way to get your nutrients through a straw—paper straws as of August—no matter how fast-paced your life is.”
He adds that each one tastes like a milkshake, delivers about 30 grams of protein, and will cost $8.50 to $9.
With the steady growth of their healthy juice brand, is Portland growing up and taking its collective health more seriously? Maybe, says Higgins.
"Portlanders will put just about anything in their bodies, but many are learning that you can only go so far down that path before abject misery sets in,” says Higgins. “You are what you eat!”
When it opens, Kure Pearl will stay open from 8 am to 8 pm daily.
