GOOD MORNING, PORTLAND!š
This week you can expect a mix of sunny skies, cloudy clouds, and ZERO California National Guard members in "war ravaged" Portland, with the high today topping out at a gorgeous 75 degrees. So be sure to wear sun screen, bring along a light jacket for possible showers later in the weekābut since the California troops aren't coming, it looks like we'll have to do our own landscaping and garbage pickup. š Now let's pick up some NEWS!
IN LOCAL NEWS:
Shall we do a quick recap of this past weekend's very busy (and very insane) slate of bullshit newsworthy events? LET'S.
⢠On Friday, US District Court Judge Karin Immergut heard arguments over a proposed emergency restraining order that would stop President Trump (AKA King Dipshit) from deploying the Oregon National Guard into Portland. After hearing from both sides, on Saturday Immergut ruled against Trump, citing that his inflammatory and objectively wrong assertions that Portland is "war ravaged" and that the ICE facility is under attack and must be protected from "antifa and domestic terrorists" were not āconceived in good faithā and "untethered to the facts.ā Shockingly, Trump and his lie-spreading cronies did not appreciate their lies being called out, and are appealing the decision.
In her ruling, US District Court Judge Karin Immergut said the Trump administration violated the 10th Amendment, and failed to provide evidence that activation of Oregon's National Guard was necessary. The temporary restraining order will be in effect until October 18.

⢠In response to the judge's order, federal agents at the Portland ICE facility immediately became more aggressive and violent toward protesters on Saturday night. Roughly 400 demonstratorsāa big increase over the 30 or so who are usually in attendanceāwere met by federal officers who forcefully shoved them down the street, firing gas, flash bang grenades, and pepper balls, seemingly without any provocation from the crowd. The feds arrested six protesters for unknown reasons, while the Portland Policeāwho stood by to break up fights between demonstrators and right wing agitators, and otherwise ignored the violence perpetrated by federal agentsāreported zero arrests.
Not seeing a lot of reporting on it, but ICE has been hosting a carousel of right-wing propagandists on their roof here in Portland and even giving them commemorative patches.

⢠On Sunday, apparently infuriated by the ruling passed down by one of his appointed judges, Trump ordered California Gov. Gavin Newsom to sendĀ 300 of his state's National Guard members into Portland. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek confirmed that 101 California troops arrived during the night, and more were on the way. Oregon's Attorney General Dan Rayfield, along with California Gov. Newsom, immediately filed a legal challenge to the new order, as Trump also ordered the National Guard into Chicago.Ā
Apparently inspired by yesterday's embarrassing loss in court, Trump has ordered California Gov. Gavin Newsom to send 300 of that state's National Guard members to Portland. Oregon Gov. Kotek says 100 have already arrived, while at the ICE facility, federal agents are growing more violent.

⢠As mentioned earlier, the snowflake crybabies of Trump's administration were FAH-URIOUS that the rule of law has been upheld, and are desperately flailing (and failing) to hide their embarrassment. Case in point: White House Chief Racist and Nosferatu Stephen Miller, whose lies and inflammatory bullshit pours from his slack-jawed mouth like a waterfall of bile.
Miller has Fascist Hissy #3 today after another court ruling. This one from a judge appointed by radical left marxist Donald J Trump.

⢠Also on Sunday, a loud and energetic protest led by local military veterans and Portland Councilor Mitch Green happened in front of city hall, to demonstrate against the administration's unlawful deployment of the National Guard to police American citizens, while also supporting the immigrant population who are being targeted by Trump's kidnapping goon squad. The vets were quick to point out that military members have a duty to refuse orders from authorities who are willfully breaking the law.Ā
Veterans & supporters gathered at Portland City Hall, urging active-duty service members to disobey any orders to deploy to American cities. "You do not need to follow unlawful orders...you have an obligation to defect from a military that is no longer functioning in the interests of its people."

⢠Then on Sunday AGAIN (Jesus Christ, will this weekend ever end?) at around 8 pm, the same federal judge who slapped down Trump's attempts to send 200 Oregon National Guard members to Portland, granted the state yet ANOTHER temporary restraining order to stop the administration from sending troops from California into our city. Judge Immergut recognized this was a ham-fisted attempt to circumvent her previous ruling, and was not happy about it one little bit. This time she not only ruled against Trump sending in Guard members from California, but any other state as well. (And just in the nick of time, because King Dipshit and his cronies called up 300 Guard members from Texas to be sent to Portland and Chicago.) š I wonder if this loooong weekend will continue into 2029?
⢠BUT WAIT... THERE'S (sigh) MORE!
⢠Unfortunately for everyoneābut especially Portland in this politically dangerous time where misinformation is being used against usāthe New York Times published yet another bullshit article written by a know-nothing San Francisco journalist who parachuted in to crap on the Democratic Socialists on city council, while also platforming the know-nothing opinions of the city's rich people. And... you know what? This is too busy of a week to say much more about it, other than read this terrific thread from our own Taylor Griggs for more info, and to check out her infinitely better, and much more informed and nuanced story on the same topic here. Oh! I'd also like to remind you that if it were not for the former mayor and city councilāas well as bad faith actors such as the Portland Business Alliance, its headmaster Jordan Schnitzer, and Portland's rich, conservative loudmouths who consistently disparaged our city in 2020āWE'D PROBABLY NOT BE IN THIS SORRY POSITION TODAY. Also, confidential to the equally implicated Oregonian Editorial Board: Can you please, for once in your lives, just SHUT THE FUCK UP? You are not our daddy, and no one respects you or gives a single shit about what you think or say. Thank you for your attention to this matter.Ā Ā
⢠In much lighter news, the date for the "Emergency World Naked Bike Ride" has been unlocked, and it is going to happen on Sunday, October 12. (So scrub your juicy bits, and disinfect your bike seat.)
⢠And this:
Juggling is a lifelong practice that is surprisingly meditative and for some, a pathway to happiness. Photo journalist @corbinsmith.bsky.social went to the Portland Juggling Festival and came back with some fantastic photos and touching stories that may change your mind about how you view the art.

IN NATIONAL/WORLD NEWS:
⢠As previously mentioned, Trump is getting increasingly desperate in his attempts to quell any sort of dissent in blue cities and states, and (before he was hilariously shut down TWICE by an Oregon federal judge) ordered National Guard members from Texas to Portland and Chicago. Now Chi-town and the state of Illinois are suing the Trump administration for the move, calling it "patently unlawful.ā (Maybe they can borrow our federal judge for a bit?) In any case, this morning White House Chief of Smelling Like Onions Stephen Miller lost his got-damned mind over the Oregon judge who stopped Trump from sending out-of-state troops to our state, squealing that the ruling was "one of the most egregious and thunderous violations of constitutional order we have ever seen." 𤣠California Gov. Gavin Newsom responded to Miller's crybaby antics with this meme:
⢠Meanwhile, in Trump's shutdown of the federal government:
Senators return to Washington on Monday without a deal to end the government shutdown now entering its sixth day.
The shutdown has sidelined 750,000 federal workers and forced many others to work without pay since funding laws expired early Wednesday.

⢠Conservatives continue to expand their media empire with the announcement today that Paramount has purchasedĀ the anti-progressive news site The Free Press, and is hiring its owner, Bari Weiss, as the editor-in-chief of CBS News. You'll remember that Paramount threw the CBS show 60 Minutes under the bus, and paid King Fool a cool $16 million after far-right wingers accused the show of manipulating a video of Kamala Harrisāa claim the show denied. Unfortunately for the current state of media, the muckraking Weiss is nothing even close to a journalist, and will likely turn the formerly respected newsroom into Fox News 2.0.
The Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal from Ghislaine Maxwell challenging her conviction for crimes relating to Jeffrey Epstein.

⢠Negotiators from Israel, Hamas, and the United States are set to start negotiations toward a ceasefire and prisoner swap in Egypt today, and we can expect the talks to be extremely awkward since the Hamas delegation will be led by senior official Khalil Al-Hayya, who was the target of an assassination attempt by the Israeli military. Representing American interests will be U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trumpās son-in-law Jared Kushner... so what could possibly go wrong?
⢠More than 200 hikers are reportedly stranded on the side of Mount Everest after being hit by a deadly blizzard. Rescuers have already successfully escorted 300 people from the storm, and hopes are high for the remaining 200 to gradually make their way to a rendezvous point without any casualties.Ā
⢠And finally... Portland's reaction whenever Trump tries to pull some illegal bullshit.
