LIFE magazine has an amazing photo essay of images five photographers sneakily snapped within North Korea. It’s an eerie vision into a secret place.

Speaking of strange, have you ever seen North Korea’s official website? It’s very 1997.

Sarah Shay Mirk reported on transportation, sex and gender issues, and politics at the Mercury from 2008-2013. They have gone on to make many things, including countless comics and several books.

  1. A friend of mine had a chance to go there a few months ago and I was begging him to take a clock photo since that is one country I don’t have a photo from. He was going to take one but said they held all cameras at the DMZ and gave them back upon exiting North Korea. He said you basically saw what they wanted you to see and wandering elsewhere was way out of the question.

  2. Vbs.tv has a great documentary from inside N Korea. Search the website for the full length video. Great stuff. Though I’d caution those faint of heart from watching the Liberia documentary.

  3. I see nothing abnormal about proper N. Korean women wandering the streets with Kalashnikovs. I think if more women were willing to accessorize with automatic weaponry we could solve the AIDS crisis and NASA’s budget shortfall.
