Directed by Michael Rapaport (master thespian and the voice of "Squirt" on Pound Puppies), Beats, Rhymes & Life is the much-anticipated and controversial documentary on hiphop icons Tribe Called Quest. I don't know a lot about urban "rap" music, but I'm pretty sure this documentary follows the misadventures of young rappers MC Gusto, Stab Master Arson, and Dead Mike. Oh, the hijinks those three get into. What's that? I have the wrong movie?

While the trailer doesn't offer much more than your typical Behind the Music look at a band's traumatic rise/fall, the documentary is getting impressive reviews (including one in our forthcoming issue) and will open in Portland on Friday, July 29 at Cinema 21.
