Star Wars might have begun with A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, but the series didn't truly explode in popularity and acclaim until the prequels told the story before the story. Even today, it's all but impossible to say the titles The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith without whoever's around you grinning, clapping you on the back, and bursting into applause; never before have three universally acclaimed films so resonated with people across generations and cultures. Perhaps that's because our beloved prequels did what no other Star Wars films dared to: They told a story we already knew the ending to.

Last year, Disney badly stumbled by releasing the box-office disaster Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a film that inexplicably tried to move the Star Wars saga forward... and a film that, as we all know, was met with universal derision, angry jeers, and deserted multiplexes. Realizing the humiliating error of their ways, Disney has now—at long last—finally given us another Star Wars prequel. The kind of Star Wars we love. The kind of Star Wars we've been demanding.
