In my 2015 film preview, I mentioned Trainwreck: “Interesting: a new Judd Apatow movie. More interesting: It’s written by, and stars, Amy Schumer.” Apatow’s movies are always worth seeing (even when they don’t fire on all cylinders, like This Is 40 or Funny People, there’s still plenty of great stuff in them), but Schumer’s involvement makes this one particularly intriguing. Put another way, if you aren’t curious about Trainwreck—or if you aren’t watching Inside Amy Schumer—then I question if there is anything worthwhile or redeemable about you, as a so-called human being, at all.
The first trailer for Trainwreck hit today, and it looks… romcom-ier than I expected? But knowing Apatow and Schumer’s work, there’ll be a lot more going on in the actual film than just the stuff that this trailer is trying to sell to mainstream audiences.
