Discourage Records, Southeast Portland’s haven of punk-themed and collectible records for 22 years, has announced that it is closing its storefront after today, March 29โ€”the final day the brick and mortar shop will be open for business.

The store, at SE 18th and Morrison, has a sale during business hours today (1-7 pm), with 30 percent of CDs and 10-20 percent of vinyl. Some of the furniture and fixtures are for sale as well. Discourage will still continue to operate as a mail order store, and owner Abraham King says there will be a physical pick-up location where local customers can get their records. King will continue to purchase collections and it’s to be expected that Discourage will continue to be a presence at Northwest record shows.

Further more, a free closing celebration is happening on Monday, April 18 at Pop Tavern (825 N Killingsworth, the former space of Ducketts Public House). The legendary Paul Collinsโ€”from bands the Nerves and the Beatโ€”will be DJing. This will be an afternoon event, from 3 to 7 pm, and will feature a pop-up shop from Discourage as well.

Discourage Records, 1737 SE Morrison, open 1-7 pm TODAY and then never again ๐Ÿ™
