HOLY CRAP we’ve got a lotta news racing down the waterslide this week. First off some worthless, shit-hearted swine broke into Another Cynthia’s van after their show at Kelly’s Olympian on November 20, making off with their instruments, cables, amps, and tools. If you’ve got any leads, hit up Andrew Galler at andrewg@johnlscott.com. But if you come across these thievin’ varmints in the flesh, stomp ’em in the balls for me before turning ’em in.
Tyler Riggs from Jesus Burger wants to start up a new rock ‘n’ roll house. He’s looking for a place with a basement, and says “Any kind of music is welcome, gender and age is not an issue, just be responsible with bills, rent, and clean up. Must be cool with people making music most of the time.” Email Tyler at tylerjesussanta@yahoo.com
Like rabbit with your rock? Local songwriter Kaitlyn ni Donovan doesn’t; she’s boycotting the Doug Fir becauseโas she claimsโthey offer rabbit on their menu. Kaitlyn says, “The amount of energy I extend seems hopeless at times. I have no inkling how people can have the right to take life, and so cruelly.” Doug Fir head chef Todd Morey says he’s gotten a few “upset, tender” emails (and thinks they’re “cute”) but shrugs off the criticism, summing up his Wednesday rabbit dish, saltimbocca, saying “They taste good.” If you wanna check out Kaitlyn’s act, her band the High Violets is playing Dante’s on Thursday.
In more upbeat news, we’ve got a new venue opening down on SW 12th and Washington. The awesomely named Bettie Ford Lounge has a two-tiered VIP lounge, three bars, and will host its opening night on Wednesday.
Killer show news: On Friday, Norfolk & Western and Point Juncture, WA are playing the Wonder Ballroom but make sure you’re not at the bar or taking a leak when Kind of Like Spitting plays. It will be their first show with a full band in three years, and it should be intensely kick-ass.
Finally, I’ve got the shitty job of reporting a tragedy in the Portland metal scene. Dave “Death” Bjorkland, guitarist for Hyperthermia, took his life over the Thanksgiving weekend. A memorial was held this past Friday. R.I.P. Dave. Portland misses you already.
Keep it coming: adam@portlandmercury.com
