You may remember the tragic death of Dan Callaway, who was killed in his Portland home by an intruder in November of 2007. In January of 2008, Lovene Gates was arrested as a suspect in the case. Callaway's former partner Jonny Shultz told friends today that this morning Gates plead guilty to two counts of felony aggravated assault murder, and will serve life in prison without chance of parole. It also spares Shultz, along with Callaway's many friends and family, having to relive the experience through a trial. Gates' sentencing is scheduled to take place within the next few weeks.

UPDATE Phil Callaway, Dan's father, wrote in to clarify Shultz's informal statement. He says, "Gates plead no contest to two counts of aggravated murder and was then pronounced guilty by the judge after the DA's presented a summary of the evidence. The plea bargain was for Gates to spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole."
