Here's your daily roundup of all the local and national news about COVID-19. (Like our coverage? Please consider donating to the Mercury to keep it comin'!)

• As of today, Oregon has a total of 4,086 positive coronavirus cases. There have been 151 deaths, an increase in three since yesterday. Nationally, the death toll passed 100,000 yesterday, and after months of silence Trump noted the astounding death rate today as "sad." (Guess he just noticed!)

• Gov. Brown announced today that Washington County has met the requirements necessary to enter Phase One, allowing the county to partially reopen starting June 1.

• Meanwhile, June 12 is the potential re-open date for Multnomah County, making it the final county in the state to enter Phase One. Our Alex Zielinski has more, and what you can expect.

• Since the pandemic hit, about 440,000 Oregonians have filed for unemployment benefits. As of yesterday, 200,000 have yet to see their first payment, thanks to an outdated and overwhelmed state employment office.

• Negotiations between the City of Portland and the Portland Police Association (the union for most Portland cops) have been delayed because of COVID-19. That means the current PPA contract is set to expire soon—so what happens then? Our Alex Zielinski has the details.

IN NATIONAL NEWS:

• Hoping that herd immunity to COVID-19 will save us? So far, most major cities in the world lack herd immunity—in New York, for example, less than 20 percent of residents have been exposed to the virus enough to develop antibodies.

• Another 2.1 million people filed for unemployment benefits last week, bringing the jobless total in America to just under 41 million people, or 26 percent of the civilian labor force.

• The latest major sporting event to cancel for 2020: The Boston Marathon. It was already postponed from April to September, but now the Marathon will be held virtually, which we'll imagine as a bunch of Zoom windows with folks jogging in place in front of a Cheers screencap.

• For a very long time, our idiot president and the White House wasted time and energy advocating for a COVID treatment (hydroxychloroquine) that didn't actually work. When they got their hands on a treatment that did work (remdesivir), they distributed it to hospitals with no ICUs, facilities with inadequate refrigeration, and in some cases, the wrong hospitals entirely.

• You don't saaaaaay....

• Remember that weird stunt our idiot president pulled last month, where he sent out an oversized postcard with his oversized scribble all over it, providing helpful guidelines to keeping yourself and others safe from the coronavirus—guidelines he continually ignores and contradicts with his own behavior? Turns out that stunt cost the US Postal Service $28 million.
