⢠Protests took place last night in Vancouver, WA in reaction to an alleged shooting of a person by Clark County sheriffâs deputies yesterday. Details are very scant at this hour, and the police are tight lipped, but we'll be watching and will offer more information as it becomes available.
We turn back the clocks on #DST this weekend. Weren't we supposed to stop all this nonsense?
Oregon and Washington tried to end the practice, but Congressional inaction thwarted our efforts. https://t.co/eJikDEKZuE

⢠Going into the 7th (!!) month of near nightly protests against police brutality and systemic racism, the Oregonian has this deep dive into the reasons why demonstrators are keeping it up, with some wise, logical thoughts from such activists as Mac Smiff. Definitely worth a read!
⢠Mayor Wheeler (with an assist from new Commissioner Dan Ryan) have delayed a vote on a potential $18 million cut from the Portland Police Bureau until next week. Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty had introduced the amendment (that was supported by Commissioner Chloe Eudaly) and was furious that Wheeler and Ryan hadn't done their homework beforehand. Our Alex Zielinski has this interesting roundup of details.
â˘Â In reaction to the Mayor's refusal to cut any deeper into the police budget and what she calls a general "lack of vision and leadership," Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty announced yesterday that she will be endorsing Wheeler's primary competitor, Sarah Iannarone, for mayor. Our Blair Stenvick has more.
â˘Â Portland Police will be teaming up with tear gas happy state troopers and Multnomah County Sheriff's Department to "keep the peace" (EYE ROLL) from election day to well into November. They will also be patrolling ballot boxes to protect voters against intimidation, even though the police are the primary reason many communities feel intimidated.
⢠Coronavirus infections in Oregon hit another unhappy record yesterday with the OHA reporting 575 new cases, and two additional deaths.
â˘Â Pok Pok owner Andy Ricker has penned an emotional letter on the closing of his flagship Thai restaurants. Read it here.
IN NATIONAL NEWS
⢠In news that should shake Trump to his core, voters in Texas have already blown past the state's total number of ballots cast in 2016, casting 9 million votes by Friday morning.
Trump's inability to capture a majority of support sheds light on his extraordinary efforts to suppress the vote.
"Never before in modern presidential politics has a candidate been so reliant on wide-scale efforts to depress the vote as Trump."https://t.co/tJ332MhvIq

â˘Â In critical battleground states, voters who did not cast their ballot in 2016 are now turning out in drovesâthe question being if that will help Democrats or Republicans.
⢠Yesterday the US hit another depressing milestone: The country has passed the 9 million mark of COVID infections, and there's no sign of it slowing. Which is impossible, right? I mean, Trump definitely said we've "turned the corner!"
⢠Par for the course: "Donald Trump Jr. said covid-19 deaths are at âalmost nothing.â The virus killed more than 1,000 Americans the same day."
â˘Â Well, how about that: One of the more prominent Republican conspiracy theories about Hunter Biden was manufactured by a fake "intelligence firm," but wait, wait, WAIT! It gets better. The author who allegedly investigated and wrote this theory was also fabricated, and given a fake profile photo with help from an artificial intelligence face generator.
⢠President Trump's senior racist adviser Stephen Miller already has an extremely racist agenda set for the presumed next four years that will build on his already deeply racist accomplishments, including "limiting asylum grants, punishing and outlawing so-called sanctuary cities, expanding the so-called travel ban with tougher screening for visa applicants and slapping new limits on work visas."
⢠The final debate between Georgia Republican Sen. David Perdue and his Dem challenger Jon Ossoff has been cancelled after the chicken shit Perdue refused to participate following the epic dragging he received from Ossoff in their previous encounter.
⢠Just in time for Halloween, there's this: For Kim Kardashian's birthday, Kanye West got her a hologram of her dead father and if it doesn't send creepy chills up your spine, you're as dead as he is.
