[Editor's Note: What follows is live reporting of the very large demonstration that took place on Saturday, June 14 at Portland's ICE facility on SW Macadam. Scroll to the bottom of this article to read all the entries in order.]
Update Sunday 7:30 am:
Portland Police reported this morning that they made three arrests at last night's demonstration at the ICE facility. The first suspect was arrested for "Attempted Assault of a Public Safety Officer," after allegedly injuring a federal agentāwho was later determined not to need medical treatment. The second suspect was arrested for allegedly throwing a rock at the ICE building, and the third in the early hours of the morning for allegedly stealing traffic control devices off SW Macadam and driving while intoxicated. It's unclear whether this third suspect was part of the earlier demonstration. The police press release was quick to note that theyāas representatives of a sanctuary city and stateādo not allegedly engage in immigration enforcement alongside ICE, but are "still responsible for maintaining public safety and enforcing state laws." It remains unclear how many at the protest were detained/arrested by federal agents.
Update 9:30 pm:
After a very long day for our reportersāspecial thanks to Taylor Griggs, Suzette Smith, Kevin Foster, Char Harris, and Corbin Smithāwe're concluding our coverage for the evening, but we'll have a wrap-up for you tomorrow. You can continue to follow Kevin Foster onĀ Bluesky who plans on remaining for a few more hours, but it's apparent that, following the actions of federal agents tonight (along with assistance from local police), Portland has not seen the last of ICE demonstrations. Scroll down to the bottom of this article to read a recap of the entire evening, and we appreciate you for supporting local journalism.
Update 9:10 pm:
Tension remains high at the ICE facility, as bike cops have returned to the demonstration and are positioning themselves at various places around the perimeter.
DHS is drilling plywood to the broken front doors of the facility.

Update 8:35 pm:
We're being told that after the arrival of the Portland Police riot squad at the ICE facility, some of the demonstrators have left the scene. OPB is reporting that police arrested an unknown number of protesters. Currently around 100 protesters still remain, and the riot police have departed for now.
Update 8:10 pm:
Portland Police have once again taken to calling this demonstration "a riot," and are threatening to make "targeted arrests" of protesters on the scene. Federal agents continue to shoot less lethal munitions at demonstrators, and our Kevin Foster says he witnessed one protester being detained and dragged inside the ICE facility. OPB and the Oregonian are reporting that a demonstrator was seen trying to break inside the ICE building. The Portland Police riot squad has arrived on the scene.

DHS agents drag an individual into their facility in S Portland and throw more teargas.

Update 7:45 pm:
The scene at the Portland ICE facility remains chaotic, with agents occasionally firing less-lethal munitions at the crowd with occasional water bottles and other small objects being thrown by members of the crowd. Our Kevin Foster, who's at the scene, has witnessed some demonstrators talking to federal agents during lulls in the action. Here are a few photos taken by our Taylor Griggs.

Update 7:15 pm:
Portland Police have apparently stopped broadcasting that the protest at the ICE facility is "a riot." (It should be noted that during the 2020 protests, Portland Police would often declare a demonstration "a riot," even in the absence of such behavior.) As our Taylor Griggs reports, since that time "a standoff has endured between protesters and feds, occasionally resulting in smoke and spicy air" from munitions still being fired by federal agents. Some demonstrators are trying to talk to Portland Police officers in an attempt to get them to āarrest the feds," though the police are essentially responding āwe have nothing to do with them.ā A group of Portland Police bike cops have reportedly arrived on the scene, and some protesters are voicing concern about being "kettled." We estimate roughly 200 of the original 500-600 demonstrators are still onsite.Ā
Original post:
An estimated ten 50 thousand Portlanders (!) joined the national "No Kings" march today (Saturday, June 14) in downtown Portlandāfor a look at what transpired, check out the Mercury's Bluesky account. As the march came to an end at 4 pm today, roughly 500 demonstrators peeled off to march to the Portland ICE facility on South Macadam avenue. Almost immediately, authorities began firing tear gas canisters into the crowd along with flash bangs, and other less-lethal munitions. According to our reporters on the ground, roughly ten agents from Federal Protective Services (part of the Department of Homeland Security) are shooting tear gas canisters and possibly pepperball projectiles into the crowd. One person has reportedly been put into handcuffs and detained. Portland Police were largely staying out of the way, but just before 7 pm used their loudspeaker to declare the current situation as a riot and are closing the streets outside the facility. Protesters on the scene are disputing that assertion.

At 7 pm, tear gas still hangs heavy in the air, and while a large portion of the crowd has dispersed, many remain. A small fire also broke out, which appears to have been started by the agents shooting less-lethal munitions into some dry brush. Those protesting at the site were said to have put out the blaze. At least one person has been badly injured by the feds.
Vincent took a less lethal to the eye. Heās says heās an ER nurse. Protesters call him an ambulance.
