Until midnight on Thursday, you can call up a bunch of festive students at the University of Illinois and request they sing you a Christmas carol, and they’ll do it, at any time of day or night. Hurry.
According to this Washington Post article (with an adorable accompanying video), these students hang out by the phones, taking requests for any song you want to hear.
I just let my six-year-old son, William, call the number. After a short wait a nice kid came on, asked him his name, where we were calling from, and what song he wanted to hear. William picked “Frosty the Snowman,” and at least two singers launched into a rousing rendition of the holiday classic.
In both the video and the article the reporter talks about their “Mariah Meter,” which is just a running tally of the number of times callers ask for “All I Want for Christmas is You.” As of 15 hours ago (according to the Dial-a-Carol Facebook page) they’d received 11,000 total calls since opening the lines last week.
They’ll be at it until 11:59 pm on Dec 16. Call them at 217-332-1882.
