Good morning, Portland! It’s time to break out your SAD lamps, because today will be rainy, cloudy, and have a high of 53.

Here are the headlines:

No Escape: According to a recent federal report on climate change, the Pacific Northwest is already experiencing its affects. Exhibit A: the Eagle Creek Fire. The changes “threaten much of what our region holds dear โ€“ from ski seasons to salmon runs,” OPB reports. Also, they threaten people’s lives.

Think Before You Click: The Daily, the podcast from the New York Times that is in turns enlightening and frustratingly beholden to both-sides-ism, put out an episode yesterday about how third-party logistics companies treat their employees like shit, all in a bid to compete with Amazon’s shipping services. One interviewee speculated that the human employees are just a temporary fixture, until robots can take over their jobs. Remember when speculation about The Future was all about metallic palettes and lightning-speed public transit?

They’re Not Gonna Take It: Residents of a Southeast Portland apartment complex are banding together to protest poor living conditions, including black mold and inconsistent water service. “My water has been shut off without warning more than a dozen times,” one tenant told the Mercury.

Mr. Wheeler Goes to Salem: Mayor Ted Wheeler and Commissioner Amanda Fritz will host a town hall tonight to get community input on Portland’s legislative agenda, which determines what the city will advocate for in the 2019 Oregon Legislative Session. The town hall is at PCC’s Southeast Campus, and is the only one being held on the subjectโ€”go tell the mayor what matters to you!

Begging His Pardon: Former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort repeatedly lied to federal investigators, according to a report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller released yesterday. He’s expected to spend at least a decade in prisonโ€”that is, unless Trump pardons him.

Poker Face: Portland Police are warning that a man has been poking people with a thin metal object near Hawthorne. If, like me, you do an obscene amount of holiday present shopping at Powell’s Books for Home and Garden, be careful and bring a friend with youโ€”unless you’re into that kind of thing?
Update: They caught the Hawthorne Poker! Justin C. Venable has been located and arrested, so you can now stroll Hawthorne without worryโ€”unless there are copycat pokers out there.

Giving Season: Looking for a way to feel less guilty about the shameless consumer impulses this time of year bring out in you? (Sorry, I’m projectingโ€”Powell’s Books for Home and Garden just has so many cute trinkets!) Today is Giving Tuesday, the philanthropic antidote to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. You can search organizations to give to by location and type here.

THEY DID SURGERY ON A GRAPE!!!: Not sure what this “They did surgery on a grape” meme is all about? This piece from New York is a funny and admirable attempt at explaining itโ€”but really, it’s just one of those phrases that becomes funnier and funnier the more you say it in your head.
