Fuck this week, man. The latest craze among governors in hard-right states has been to say, full of utterly wrong passionate intensity, that they won't accept Syrian refugees within their borders. Meanwhile, we're seeing what happens when another popular ultraconservative opt-out hobby—eroding women's healthcare—comes to its obvious awful conclusion. Today, there's news out of Texas that, oh hey, when you restrict access to abortion, you don't stop abortions from happening, you stop safe abortions from happening. Here's the Atlantic:

Between 100,000 and 240,000 Texas women between the ages of 18 and 49 have tried to end a pregnancy by themselves, according to a pair of surveys released Tuesday by the Texas Policy Evaluation Project, a University of Texas-based effort aimed at determining the impact of the state’s reproductive policies.

The Atlantic piece outlines many of the reasons women give for self-inducing, but it all basically boils down to Texas' draconian anti-abortion bill that was passed in 2013, HB 2, requiring abortion clinics to meet the same standards as ambulatory surgical centers, and requiring clinic staff to obtain admitting privileges to emergency rooms at nearby hospitals. These regulations clearly haven't made women safer—but they have forced clinics to close, making Texas a state where the average county is 111 miles away from the nearest abortion clinic.

Fuck. This. Week.

Can we just try again next week?

I hate this week.

Anyway, here's where you can donate to Planned Parenthood.
