Donald Trump has been president for one year, and OH WHAT A MESS HE’S MADE. While I originally figured he’d eventually be impeached for his campaign’s probable collusion with Russia, I had no idea he’d build up a wealth of reasons why he should be kicked out of office. And so, here we are today, marching again against Trump’s racism and nation-damaging idiocy. Follow along with the Mercury‘s Protest Reporting Squad as we cover the majority of Portland’s protests today right here, or for second-by-second reporting follow the Mercury on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, News Editor Dirk VanderHart here, and Senior Editor Megan Burbank here (where she’ll be on the scene for Portland’s #MeToo rally and march. Good luck to everyone, and let’s be careful and LOUD out there!

Organizer Rosemary says, “sexual violence is the norm… our bodies in this society are treated like public property… the #metoo movement is changing that,” urges advocacy on this issue for queer/trans folks, POC, not just actresses in Hollywood. Naming is power.
— Megan Burbank (@meganireneb) January 20, 2018
Now she’s urging people who haven’t been sexually harassed or assaulted to support people who have by taking action. Makes me wonder how many ppl who marched for impeachment aren’t here rn 👀
— Megan Burbank (@meganireneb) January 20, 2018
Another speaking choked up as she shared her story and everybody applauded her so supportively, then cheered super loud when she said her attacker was suspended from their school

3 pm:
The Impeach Trump March seems to have dispersed (at least for now), so let’s direct our attention to the #MeToo rally.
#metoo speaker Nick is talking about “truly frightening” sexual violence perpetrated against homeless women. “Homelessness can happen to anyone. Let’s not forget about our homeless sisters out there today.”

Impeach March is currently two blocks long and still “chill” according to Dirk. Meanwhile Megan is talking with #MeToo Rally participants.
Ariel and Ava Poulson, Portland. They’re here “Because it’s important. Because I’ve had a lot of unfair experiences” and we need to fight back “so that my daughter and the next round of women don’t have to deal with the same BS.” pic.twitter.com/xUFvLH5eun
— Megan Burbank (@meganireneb) January 20, 2018
Violet, Portland. She came to the #metoo speakout and March because “I like to feel solidarity with lots of people experiencing a type of violence that’s usually very private and individual.” Community is powerful.” pic.twitter.com/mDCOWmcGCc

Portland Police are starting to block off certain roads to keep marchers and cars away from each other.
A march has started @inDowntownPDX. The march does not have a permit to walk on roads, but for the safety of participants and the motoring community, police are attempting to close some roads to motor vehicles in the area. Please use extra caution if driving in @inDowntownPDX.
