Social Media Engagement Manager

The Portland Mercury, Portland’s favorite media company, is searching for an experienced, professional Social Media Engagement Manager. This is a dream opportunity for a results-oriented individual with vision and ambition.

The right candidate will have expert knowledge of social networking channels (specifically Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills (including proofreading). A degree in marketing, journalism, or new media is desired, but not required.

This position will be mainly responsible for daily editorial posts and tweets to all applicable social media outlets. Other duties include fulfilling social media sales and promotional agreements, tracking social media influence measurements, partnering with other departments to ensure proper online messaging and relevancy, ensuring consistency of messages across multiple networks, preparing internal reports to update staff on usage statistics, and continuous monitoring and coverage of all company sites. The overriding goal of this position is to increase visibility, discussion, and engagement for the Portland Mercury.

Due to the fast-paced nature of the position, excellent prioritizing, time-management, and multitasking skills are necessary. Enthusiasm, people skills, and a genuine sense of humor are a must. Experience with Chartbeat, Google Analytics, headline testing tools, and a keen understanding of SEO is a big plus. Creativity, bold thinking, and risk-taking is appreciated in a candidate, since social media is a constantly evolving (and tricky!) landscape that requires innovation.

This is a full-time position with competitive compensation and benefits (medical/dental/vacation/sick). Occasional evening and weekend hours should be considered a regular component of the weekly schedule along with assisting in event production. This employee reports to the Editor in Chief and the Publisher.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume (with relevant links to showcase your social-media work) to: publisher@portlandmercury.com. DEADLINE FOR ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS IS WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 2019.

The Mercury is an equal opportunity employer that celebrates a diverse workplace. Women, POC, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are especially encouraged to apply!
