- Starkys Facebook Page
Starkys Restaurant and Bar, a longtime fixture in Portland’s gay community, closed its doors forever on September 13 to make way for a 46-unit multifamily apartment building.
According to the now-shuttered restaurant’s website, Starkys has been serving up food and drinks since 1984. The building sold in March of this year for $1.2 million. No demolition permits have been issued by the city as of this post, but on Sept. 2 the city received an early intake permit application for the building that will eventually be built on the lot, which is located at 2913 SE Stark St.
The restaurant’s Facebook page indicates the owners, Joe and Greg, sold the restaurant with plans to retire. I reached out to see if I could get a comment on the closure, but no one answered the phone. Commenters on Facebook were universally sad to see the place close down.

“According to the now-shuttered restaurant’s website, Starkys has been serving up food and drinks since 1984.”
It’s like their website didn’t bother to read the sign out front that says something completely different.
A lot of memories there. It will be missed.
I cannot imagine how bad the traffic will be once they add in all of those new housing units. Portland is the worst city for traffic problems. I’m glad I moved to SD.
It’s truly a shame to see the end of the delicious coincidence of a place called Starky’s being located on Stark Street.
Will miss their champagne brunch ๐ .
