Passengers, Prepare for Takedown: A JetBlue pilot was locked out of the cockpit due to erratic, loony antics yesterday. Thanks to concerned (and scared for their lives) passengers, he was restrained until the copilot made an emergency landing.

Unnecessary: al-Jazeera receives video of the Toulouse school shootings but decides not to air it due to its graphic nature, as it would break the news outlet’s ethics standards.

Who Needs ’em? Newt Gingrich cuts a third of his campaign staff, but hopes for the best.

Meanwhile, in Money Town: The renovation plans for Mitt Romney’s California beach house reveal a car elevator and a 3,600-square foot basement. Oh, and a private lobbyist to push the plans forward.

Runway Rubbers: Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi creates trendy condoms for Planned Parenthood.

Bottle Your Own Water: Oregon activists band together to take down a planned Nestle bottling plant in the Columbia Gorge.

  1. GOOD MORNING, ALEX! HOW ARE YOU?!?

YOUR TIDBIT ABOUT THE AL-JAZEERA VIDEO IS CONFUSING AND POTENTIALLY 100% INCORRECT. IT WOULD READ BETTER IF IT SAID SOMETHING LIKE:

“AL-JAZEERA WAS MAILED A VIDEO OF THE TOULOUSE SCHOOL SHOOTINGS, THEY THEN DECLINED TO AIR THE VIDEO BECAUSE IT DID NOT MEET THE ETHICAL STANDARDS OF THEIR NETWORK DUE TO THE VIDEO’S GRAPHIC NATURE.”

THE WAY YOU’VE WRITTEN ON THIS POST MAKES IT SOUND LIKE AL-JAZEERA VIOALATED THEIR OWN ETHICAL STANDARDS BY NOT BROADCASTING THE VIDEO.

  2. See Graham? This is where you and I diverge. I assumed Alex was mocking Al-Jazeera’s ethical standards. Which made me think The Portland Mercury was starting to go red state on us.

Which I guess would make them have to change their name to The Portland Mars.

  3. Forget about car elevators, how about that shopping-cart escalator at the new Hawthorne Safeway! Fancy pants! (OK, Safeway, where’s my payola?)

  4. @FC: BUT THEN ALEX GOES AND MAKES A NINJA EDIT AND MAKES ME LOOK LIKE A FOOL. WHATEVER. SUPPOSEDLY, THE ETHICAL STANDARD OF THE MERCURY WHEN MAKING CHANGES TO ALREADY PUBLISHED STORIES IS TO DO A STRIKEOUT AND THEN ADD THE CHANGED CONTENT. BUT LIKE I SAID, WHATEVER.

  5. I think there should be a Mirror World tea party issue of The Portland Mercury as The Portland Mars.

Though Steve would have to grow a black beard.

  6. @REYMONT: ALEX EDITED HER POST AFTER I COMMENTED ABOUT THE WORDING. IT ORIGINALLY SAID:

“Unnecessary: al-Jazeera receives video of the Toulouse school shootings but decides not to air it due to its graphic nature, breaking their ethical standards”
