—The summertime (August 26) edition of Fade to Light will be here before we know it, and most of the lineup has been released. Look for new apparel work accompanied by mood-setting film projects by Altar, Bryce Black, Sara Bergman, Rogue: Minx, Stefanie Says, Studio SKB, WWJJD, and more.
—If you don’t love wandering around big old neat houses I don’t even know what to say to you, but here’s a nice little excuse to visit (perhaps hike?) the Pittock Mansion: July 18-Nov 15 they’re hosting the exhibition “Ball Gowns to Bloomers,” a display of antique clothing and accessories from the late 1800s and early 1900s: “Discover how the idealized female silhouette changed from curvy and voluptuous to a flat and boyish; how the well-off made statements of wealth with fragile silks, frills, embroidery and beading compared to what the working class wore; how ready-to-wear clothing became a wardrobe staple in the 20th century and more!”

—Aaron Horwath is a native Portland guy currently living in Vietnam, and together with his mother, Randi Miller, they’ve started an interesting web shop concept called MASI (which stands for Mother and Son Imports). The initial concept of the venture, which just went online Thursday, is to sell harem pants (the style will be familiar to anyone who’s traveled through Southeast Asia) made by “a team of six local seamstresses that are located in a rural village about an hour outside Hanoi.” They’re $24 per, 100% cotton, and $2 for each pair sold is to be donated to Artists for Orphans.

—Rooks Traditional barbershop now has wheels, calling itself “Portland’s First Traveling Barbershop.” The mobile two-chair barbershop is available for clients who prefer they come to you (at no extra charge), and it’ll also be making regular rounds in the metro area for walk-up appointments, too.
—Detroit powerhouse brand Shinola is opening a Portland store in—where else?—the West End, at 415 SW 13th. Look for the maker of watches, bikes, and leather goods to swing open doors in the early fall.
