Local journalist David Neiwert argues in a long blog post that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is not exactly a fascist:
Rather, what he is doing is mustering the latent fascist tendencies in American politics—some of it overtly white supremacist, while the majority of it is the structural racism and white privilege that springs from the nation’s extensive white-supremacist historical foundations—on his own behalf. He is merrily leading us down the path towards a fascist state even without being himself an overt fascist.
The reality that Trump is not a bona fide fascist himself does not make him any less dangerous. In some ways, it makes him more so.
It’s worth reading the whole thing, but the conclusion is sobering. “America, thanks to Trump, has now reached that fork in the road,” Neiwert writes, “where it must choose down which path its future lies—with democracy and its often fumbling ministrations, or with the appealing rule of plutocratic authoritarianism, ushered in on a tide of fascistic populism.”

Trump certainly acts like a fascist (bellicose language, growing cult of personality, thuggish behavior by himself and violent behavior by his followers towards any dissent). Then again, as the article mentions, many Americans are fans of fascist/authoritarian thinking. Fortunately, there are also many Americans who find this kind of thinking and behavior abominable and will do everything in our power to stop it from gaining further hold in this country.
“The definition of fascism is The marriage of corporation and state ”
― Benito Mussolini
How can anyone own casinos in Vegas or Jersey without being Mob? The CIA once owned a commercial airline, called, “Air America”. Who knows how many shares of corporate stock they now own. The CIA has many joint enterprises with the Mob, and the Mob invests in legitimate corporations as well.
Six corporations now own ninety percent of major media. These same corporations are the largest contributors equally to Democratic and Republican political candidates. That’s why the debates are so boring. Trump might appear to be like the boy who said the Emperors new cloths were threadbare, but the Oligarchy only lets you vote for who they want you to vote for.
Good thing you’re a blog and not some real corporation baying politics. What a total lack of.. nevermind.
