I’m done with dating men in this town. Seriously, all of the men I’ve gone out have been little boys. I gave them ALL fair warning that I would bring my child on our first date and yet upon meeting, they freak out. I don’t believe in sacrificing time with my son for time with strangers, so he tags along with me on first dates. My son is well-behaved and is never a brat, but these “men” all seem very uncomfortable upon meeting…fidgety in their chair, checking their phones, looking around for an escape. After one iced tea and some fries, they inevitably “have to leave.” One guy even had the gall to say “I thought you were joking about the kid” to which I replied: “Nothing I stated indicated it was a joke.” He grumbled, finished his soda and said… you guessed it: “Nice to meet you, but I have to go.” When will the men of Portland MAN UP and start treating single mothers with the respect they deserve? No more dates for me!

  1. Oh Anon why you would expose your child and your date to such epic levels of discomfort? Your expectations of others are unreasonable, especially someone that has nothing invested in you. Put yourself in your date’s shoes. I don’t think you’re going to get much sympathy here.

  2. Ya I think its twisted to bring your child to a first date. It doesn’t serve you, the child or a potential beau. What the hell are you thinking?

  3. Exactly I,Anon!!! What’s wrong with these feckless assholes in Portland (or anywhere on Earth) that don’t wanna meet their future step-children on the 1st date?

    (I ain’t saying she’s a gold-digger…)

  4. Advertising that you will bring your kid on the first date seems like a great way to attract a weirdo.

At least the guys who ditched you thought you were joking and weren’t predators. Sounds like they exercised sound judgment when they bailed.

Your kid comes first, and it doesn’t sound like you are at a place in your life where you can date and not sacrifice his well-being. Raise your kid, get some counselling and
in ten years you will hopefully be in a place where you can be a good mom and a decent girlfriend. Right now you have men running for the hills and you need to absorb that.

Enjoy your holiday with your son. He’ll be grown someday.
    Treasure family time.

  5. If you keep having the same problem with every guy you meet, then I’ve got some news for you, they are not the problem. You are the only constant and yet fail to see what that indicates.

I cannot even believe your level of crazy, paired with a total lack of awareness of normal expectations, complete disregard for how the other party may feel about it, and total indignation about the completely foreseeable outcome that you experience. You are doing every man in town a favor by not dating and for that I thank you.

Crazy and stupid. What “real man” wouldn’t want to get with that? You’re gonna have to set your bar a bit lower or you will forever be disappointed and alone.

  6. Ok, fess up, this one is not real. no person with two neurons would take a child on a date. rule no. 1, you have a baby? you give up your freedom, and put the child first. no child should be exposed to a parent’s dates. if this is real, the poster is truly sick and needs serious help… or prison.

  7. I have empathy. First date, I expose my penis to my date right away. I try to ensure that it is “ready to rumble,” because, hey full disclosure–no surprises… This could be her “one and only forever penis.” Often, my date “will have to leave immediately” too.
