When I first started reading The Mercury, I did it just for the Savage Love column. I loved that there was a place in popular print where you could read about people with the same kinks and questions as you, or not. It was column you could pick up and learn from and have a discussion about, whether or not you identified with that weeks’ topics. I thought about writing in many times with my own question. Not anymore. I feel like the advice has become jaded, and peoples’ problems are not addressed with care and compassion.

I appreciate the column and the energy that has been put into it for so long, but I feel like it is time for a new voice. Dan Savage has done so much to bring the sex everyone is having into everyone’s living rooms (or theaters if we’re talking about “Hump!”, which amazing, if you haven’t been), but the space for sex and relationship advice needs to be filled by a new perspective. Someone that can offer a dynamic only produced by different life experience.

This column has been groundbreaking in so many ways, but ya gotta keep it fresh and keep breakin’ that ground!

  1. Dan does just fine.
Just giving the correct advice is never wrong or boring dumbass.
Did anyone ever get away with telling Ann Landers to ‘keep it fresh’?

  2. What I,A is saying is that gay is too mainstream, and the easily-offended self-identifiers are being oppressed by his married, monogamous, child-rearing lifestyle.

Are you listening, Dan? Us polymorphic fruitarians didn’t blaze new trails across the spectrum of love and expression just so you could muck it up with your heteronormative homosexual snoozefest! And for heaven’s sake stop adopting kids, it’s almost as bad as breeding more of ’em.
