There’s been a lot said on Twitter about why it’s wrong for headline writers to boil down the Republican tax plan vote into a simple “win” for the GOP. Well, today brings a brand new reason why it’s wrong:

Silver is pointing people toward a Quinnipiac poll of 1,508 voters around the country that finds Democrats now have an 8-point lead on the question of which party can be trusted to do a better job on taxes. This poll result doesn’t change how bad the GOP tax bill will be for the middle class, Millennials, Gen-X—pretty much everyone except very wealthy Boomers. But it does suggest a(nother) major opportunity for Democrats to win over the voters they need to take back the House next year.
