If you have $85 burning a hole in your pocket and want to spend it ASAP, then you should definitely know about the “Rising Stars” awards dinner that the publisher StarChefs is throwing in April.
Four times a year in cities across the US, StarChefs awards new to newish talent by throwing a big potluck in which each participant cooks up a dish to share with ticket holders.
This year’s party features Western Carolina-dipped chicken, collard greens, and mac and cheese from Maya Lovelace (Mae, Yonder), rabbit in a clay pot from Bonnie Morales (Kachka), sashimi from Trent Pierce (Roe), beef pares from Carlo Lamagna (Magna), and pastries by Lauren Breneman (Coquine). There’ll be cocktails, too, from Deadshot’s Adam Robinson and Ataula’s Angel Teta.
That’s just half of participating chefs. And the cherry on top? The event will be emceed by Han Oak’s Peter Cho and celebrity food person Gary “the Foodie” Okazaki.
The Rising Stars Gala goes down at Castaway (1900 NW 18th) on Tuesday, April 17, starting at 6:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased online via Eventbrite.
Don’t sleep on this—the last time StarChefs was here was in 2011. It could be another seven years before you have the chance to sample some of the best eats in town all under one roof.
