Opening Night QDoc Film Festival: Jaripeo
QDoc takes over Cinema 21 this weekend, celebrating 20 years of uplifting queer stories and filmmaking. The festival opens with Jaripeo, a visually stunning film uncovering stories of countercultural queerness at Michoacán’s traditional, machismo-fueled Christmas-time rodeo. The evening will also feature a live performance by Héctor Zaragoza Valentín, a Mexican folkloric dancer, mariachi violinist, singer, and drag artist. Later in the weekend, a sold-out screening of Rapinoe explores Megan Rapinoe’s career, activism, and personal life, followed by a Q&A with the soccer superstar herself. These films are just a taste of the inspiring, heartbreaking, thought-provoking, and joy-filled queer stories screening throughout the festival, so be sure to check out the full schedule. BRI BREY
