So you know how some gay boys always do their own thing without giving a flying fuckwich what others think about them? Well, this column is for them! I’ve chosen a few pioneering fagalas that didn’t go along with the sociological mores of their respective times.
• Swoon (1992)–It’s weird when you think a killer is hot, but how about two hot killers? Leopold and Loeb (played with fierce panache by Daniel Schlachet and Craig Chester) were a couple of hottie mean gays who kidnapped and killed a kid for kicks in the roaring (and apparently flaming) ’20s. I’d make an unscientific wager that if these boys were around today, they’d probably channel their rage and contempt into a homo zine or something. Shot in black and white, it reminds me of a boy-boy version of Heavenly Creatures. Faster Hot Boys… Kill! Kill! Kill!
• Revenge of the Nerds (1984)–Lamar Latrell (Larry B. Scott) IS the god of us all (props to blairmag.com). He’s the only Tri-Lam with any style whatsoever, i.e. tux T-shirt, red Thriller pleather jacket, ascots gay-lore. He sets the stage on fire with his Devo-esqe fag-rap that wins the talent show. Then to top off his supremacy, he wins the javelin throw at the Greek-olympics with a specially made javelin that gets its power from his fagginess. WOW! Now bow before your god… LAMAR LATRELL!
• Queer as Folk (1999)–This is not the fluffy insipid American version, but the raunchy hot British one. Stuart Jones (Aidan Gillen) isn’t very nice, and doesn’t give a shite what you think about him. He may be screwing a 15-year-old twink and rubbing it in the kid’s parents’ faces, but who cares? He’s hot, hot, hot, and he knows it. If you never got to see this groundbreaking BBC mini-series, you can rent series one and two on video and DVD at your nearest fag-friendly video store. fuck you, I’m a fag!
