Mylans Ben Wasby doing some explaining

Mylan’s Ben Wasby doing some explaining

Hood River has been short on decent wine bars (or bars with decent wine). Mylan, a micro-label making wines in the Gorge, has recently opened up what’s billed as a tasting room though it offers plenty more. Tucked in the back of a galleryโ€”a testament to resourcefulness and necessityโ€”it offers a short list of local small-batch winemakers alongside some European examples, all of which are natural (glass pours run from $8-15). Mylanโ€™s Ben Wasby is your affable host who will happily talk you through the offerings (and explain what a natural wine is).

There are weekly tastings featuring wines from all overโ€”alternative cheese and wine pairings and Pinot Noir from Switzerland were a couple of recent ones, and Canadian and Hungarian wines are highlighted in the coming weeks. Open Friday to Monday, it attracts a mixed clienteleโ€”tourists on the wine trail, enthusiasts, industry locals, and generally thirsty folks.
