Lloyd Center Mall will close its doors on August 8, 2026.

A press release from Urban Renaissance Group, the mall’s owners, announced the official closure date and explained that tenants will have until August 31 to vacate the mall. Tenants learned the closure date this morning in a meeting held before the public announcement.

Jumbo’s Pickleball, Trackers Earth, and the Regal Cinemas will remain open. A representative from Jumbo’s Pickleball told the Mercury that their business is freestanding from the mall’s main structure, and they’re “not going anywhere.” Regal’s Lloyd Center movie theater is even further removed, located across NE Multnomah.

Earlier this year, the Portland Design Commission voted to approve a master plan put forward by Urban Renaissance and ZGF Architects to redevelop the area currently occupied by the mall. According to the press release from Urban Renaissance Group: “The redevelopment of Lloyd Center will include thousands of new housing units, six acres of open space, and improved connections with surrounding neighborhoods.” This potential redevelopment will span 1.2 million square feet, about twenty city blocks. Urban Renaissance says that space is “now more than 90% vacant.”

Closure of the mall arrives despite a vocal effort to “Save Lloyd” on the part of tenants and community members who’ve become regulars at the mall. The building’s emptiness has made it a destination for a weekly walking group, Food Court 5000, that has gained national attention, along with pop-up markets, art spaces, and unique events—such as Friday’s Carl Stone concert on the mall’s ice skating rink, presented by Virtua Gallery.

The Save Lloyd Campaign responded to the owner’s announcement with a reminder that there are two appeals filed against the decision to approve the Lloyd Center redevelopment plans, and those appeals require a hearing with city council, scheduled for June 24.
