Portland Public Schools announced the KPIs for their rightsizing efforts, and I was surprised that class sizes are not at all mentioned.
How the hell is anybody supposed to learn algebra in a class room of 42 students to a single teacher?! How can we possibly hold a teacher accountable for the outcomes of all of those students?
This seems like an unreasonable burden to place on teachers, an impossible burden to put on students, and a shit-show that this school administration is going to unilaterally unleash on a community that appears to be unified in pushing back on this really bad idea that the district is pursuing.
Sure, enrollment “may” be dropping, but we also have massive over-crowding in some schools. Is it really that much to ask that we solve the over-crowding as part of the rightsizing so that maybe our kids can learn the material and the teachers aren’t being worked to death?—Anonymous
