Everyone’s favorite non-Mercury sponsored music festival is bringing out the big guns this year. MusicFest NW–which runs September 3-6 at various Portland venues–has (partially) spilled the beans on this year’s stellar lineup.

So far, here’s what we know…
TV on the Radio, Vampire Weekend, Mogwai, the Murder City Devils, Menomena, Deerhunter, Dan Deacon, M. Ward, Polvo, the Cool Kids, the Night Marchers, Mirah, Del the Funky Homosapien, Blitzen Trapper, Oxford Collapse, Old Time Relijun, Jedi Mind Tricks, School of Seven Bells, Monotonix, Matt & Kim, Port O’Brien, Old 97’s, Centro-Matic, John Vanderslice, Poison Idea, Crooked Fingers, Bodies of Water, the Joggers, Throw Me the Statue, the Shaky Hands, These Arms Are Snakes, U.S.E., Starfucker, Calvin Johnson, the Muslims, Pwrfl Power, Fucked Up, Death Vessel, Witchcraft, Trans Am, Walter Meego, Totimoshi, the Helio Sequence, and more to come…

Holy fuck*.

Once word on the rest of the lineup–and an on-sale date for those uncomfortable festival wristbands–becomes available we’ll pass it on to you.

* That was just my reaction. The band Holy Fuck will not be there. Sorry for any confusion that might have caused.

  1. Every year I’m less and less excited about this. It’s not because of the lineups because those only get better but if you want to see anything really good it’s a giant clusterfuck to get into. I used to love bouncing around from club to club but now you have to stay put in one place or you can’t get back in.

  2. !!! I wish I could get rid of my Capitol Hill Block Party Tickets now because this is a better line up.

SO excited to see The Murder City Devils (again)

  3. Garrett, that may be a legit complaint but consider how increasingly well-curated this festival is… at the KBOO record sale last weekend I found a comp disc from MFNW 2003 and you know what? I’ve lived here for 6 years and I’m pretty sure only 3 of the bands on there are still active. So, I’m all for an annual festival bringing on Mogwai for me. Yesplease.

  4. i made a playlist so windows media player will find mfnw bands in your music library, and you can get prepared with an afternoon (five minutes?) of mfnw-y goodness:
    http://jamidwye.freehostia.com/pastebox/mfnw.wpl

just save the page that comes up in your wmp playlist folder. then open wmp, click mfnw, and listen to a nice mix of mfnw bands.

i know, everyone cool loves steve jobs, and maybe i should give in and write a playlist maker for itunes. but surely i’m not the only music geek who hates itunes and the broken music they sell?

  5. Yeah, Polvo got back together to play All Tomorrow’s Parties this year, so hey, why not play more? New drummer I guess.

I can see some legitimate complaints with iTunes, but that’s no reason to go with WMP of all things.

    Good looking lineup.

  6. Is it true that Black Whales are playing the fest? I saw them in Seattle a couple months ago and it was like seeing the fuckin’ Strokes before they got all Tiger Beat. Fingers crossed.
