The details, cut and pasted right from the press release because holy shit Michel Gondry in Portland and time is of the essence:
Acclaimed director Michel Gondry visits the Hollywood Theatre on May 28th and 29th with his documentary The Thorn in My Heart. The film will continue to play through June 3rd.
Michel Gondry is a filmmaker known for breaking new groundโbe it in the world of commercial advertising, directing music videos for the likes of Bjork and the White Stripes, or helming imaginative features like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind, Dave Chapelleโs Block Party, or the upcoming The Green Hornet.
Gondryโs newest film, The Thorn in My Heart (L’Epine dans le Coeur), further propels his filmography into the realm of the un-visted with a personal look at the life of Gondry family matriarch, his aunt Suzette Gondry, and her relationship with her son, Jean-Yves. Michel examines Suzetteโs years as a schoolteacher and her life in rural France. During the course of filming the documentary, new family stories are unearthed and Michel uses his camera to explore them in a subtle and sensitive way.
The Thorn in My Heart had its world premiere screening in the official selection at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
Here’s the trailer for the film, which seems to be officially titled The Thorn in the Heart:
Keep checking Blogtown and the Mercury for specific info about exactly when Gondry will be appearing next week, and check out next week’s Mercury for a review of The Thorn in the Heart. Also, if you’re so inclined: Some of my favorite Gondry videos are after the jump, and more examples me shamelessly geeking out about Gondry are here and here. I kind of love him.

I don’t know if he’s still doing it, but for a while Gondry would make a sketch of any photo you sent him, it cost like $20. I got a few made as presents for people. Also,
OOOOOH SHIT! MICHELLE GONDRY IN PDX!!@!~!111 So exciting!
Trippy photo! It’s a blanket and he’s kinda standing at an angle, weird.
Maybe while he’s around he’ll pay me the $40 he still owes me for the stupid sketches he never sent me…
I’m sure he’s a busy man but its been over a year, its not like I asked him to build it out of Legos!
