There’s moody trailer out for X-Men: First Class, which in some ways looks even goofier than I figured it would, and in other ways looks surprisingly cool. I gotta admit, the Cuban Missile Crisis stuff is a clever angle, and I love the idea of a period superhero movie—I’m just not convinced the tired X-franchise has enough energy to do the concept justice. (Plus, now I’m feeling weirdly proprietary about my name.) Anyway, here!

Sound off, comics geeks.

  1. It’s probably just the majesty of the Fassbender, but this simply made me want a Magneto movie. Sorta like how “The Runaways” made me wish it was “Joan Jett Is Fuckawesome: The Movie” instead.

Magneto: The Joan Jett of the X-Men.

  2. If you want a period superhero flick, I think you’re looking for the upcoming Captain America. I mean, it’s got the 1940s and Nazis built in, right?

  3. I have forgotten to bring my headphones to work for a SECOND TIME today. Not only do I have to listen to people gabbling all day, but I am missing out on this trailer and it’s VERY UPSETTING.

  4. Goddamn it. I was prepared to hate this preview and now I know I’m going to go see the movie. Despite deliberately trying to not get my expectations up, I’m going to walk away disappointed.

  5. I would like to see nicer superhero costumes in my movies. It’s not quite clear, but it looks like they’re going with some variant of the classic yellow/blue outfits. This pleases me.
