Yesterday at a fundraiser for his 2012 campaign, President Obama talked very candidly about his feelings on Republican legislative tricks. He didn’t realize he was speaking into an open mic. I hope that if he gets a second term and doesn’t have to worry about reelection that he speaks this candidly all the time:

He also complained about how White House technology is “30 years behind,” saying “”I’m the president of the United States. Where’s the fancy buttons and stuff and the big screen comes up? It doesn’t happen.”

  1. I think if he WAS speaking more candidly, he’d get re-elected in a landslide. Nice to see the Pres. developing a spinal column.

  2. yeah, I hate to sound cynical – but reality is a hell of a thing – but I think almost everything about brand Obama’s a PR creation. He says lots of cools stuff we love and agree with, then goes about to do the opposite. The guys behind him are geniuses and years ahead of anything that The American Enterprise Institute can come up with. Assholes like Karl Rove can only comment in his wake, but he’s been punked by superior firepower and is writhing like a fat beetle on his back.

So far, Obama’s done nothing about Habeas Corpus, offshore extraordinary rendition torture, getting us out of Afghanistan (if anything, he’s expanded it into other countries Nixon-style), ending corporate welfare, Bush’s tax cuts for the obscenely wealthy and other things that apparently only hippies care about.

The only thing that will get him re-elected at this point is that the Republicans will run another hideous, anachronistic hobgoblin again and we’ll develop some half-assed rationale that he needs for more years to undo the eight of Bushco.

  3. I don’t see how Obama has any chance of re-election unless he reverses Executive Order 13489 (signed the day after he took office), which effectively seals all his pre-presidential records. We’re talking about someone who had no public record prior to 2004 and who has reneged on nearly all his campaign promises. I blog about this at “The President with No Past” at http://stuartbramhall.aegauthorblogs.com/2011/04/02/the-president-with-no-past-obamas-electability-in-2012/
