If you have to bend that far backward to explain to yourself why you should have enjoyed a show, it's possible that you didn't enjoy it.

I mean, it kind of sounds like she's not going to be dazzling with diamonds, so is opting to baffle with bullshit. And that's fine, but it also has A Serious Point to be made i.e. how remarkable it is that someone who's an artist would be queer, which then leaves a well-meaning reviewer more or less having to say, "I guess it's my fault that I didn't understand this," which it isn't, really.
