The Mint Chicks make the move from New Zealand to Portland.
Ezra Ace Caraeff
Ezra Ace Caraeff is the former Music Editor for the Mercury, and spent nearly a third of his life working at the paper. More importantly, he is the owner of Olive, the Mercury’s unofficial office dog. His writing has appeared in The Fader, The Stranger, The Onion's A.V. Club, ESPN's TrueHoop network, and countless fanzines that are thankfully long out of print. He makes a mean tofu scramble and yes, Ace is really his middle name.

YACHT Salutes the Summer with DFA
Confirming the gossip we previously mentioned here at End Hits Page Six, YACHT has signed to the mighty DFA label. Judging by the hilarious video above for “Summer Song,” the local duo (who, evidently, are now bigger in Sweden than ABBA) will fit right in on their new label home. The Summer Song EP is […]
I Am Not Fit to Answer Your Drunken Text Messages
As of late, it seems like everyone I know is in love with Cha Cha, the magical text-and-answer site previously referred to on this blog as the “greatest invention of the texting age.” Send any inquiry to 242-242 and you will get a reply within minutes from a (human, not computer) texting specialist. It’s great […]
This Week’s Mercury Music Section
Another week, another Mercury music section to read while you return those clown figurines you took from a house in NE Portland. Come on! Give back the clown heirlooms!! Kids. They like their skateboards, their video game machines, and hanging out on my goddamn lawn all day long. They also like former National Geographic editor […]
Brandon Roy Needs Arthroscopic Knee Surgery (Panic!)
It sure is nice being a Blazers fan these days–Greg Oden is healthy, Rudy Fernandez is on his way (even if he isn’t too racially sensitive), Jerryd Bayless had an amazing summer league… things are looking up for the red and black. Really, what could possibly go wrong? PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Trail Blazers […]
Google Art
This Google StreetView image of a pissed drunk Australian man has been making the rounds online today (here, too), but every time I see it I am reminded of a Gregory Crewdson photo. Maybe because it’s so surreal? Or perhaps it’s the weird positioning of his limp body that makes for such a striking placement […]
The Shins (and Friends) on Darfur Benefit
Darfur = bad.Shins = good. Now that the math is done, it’s time to talk about Causes 1. This Waxploitation release (it came out late last year, but it seems that only recently has it been given a second publicity push) features new/rare/exclusive songs from the likes of The Cure, Animal Collective, Spoon, Cornelius, and […]
BREAKING NEWS – MFNW Letters Rescued!
Posing as Red Cross aid workers, a crack team of military experts–three Israeli Mossad officers and Night Cabbie–pulled off a daring rescue of Musicfest NW’s kidnapped letters this Sunday. Left in plain view at Farragut field, the letters were recovered during the Mercury vs. Willamette Week softball game. We won the game, naturally. Thank the […]
