Looks like Portland isn’t the only city in the midst of a perceived “bike vs. everybody else” war. Check out this video of a Critical Mass ride in NYC on July 25 that gets ugly when a cop bodychecks a bicyclist. Cue righteous indignation… NOW.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. Oh, I say, violence? In America? Never, I say, never. Really, what is one to think of such things.

    Really, now.

    Not funny,

    Hope the bloke wasn’t hurt.

  2. Nicely executed! Feet planted, slight crouch to lower his center of gravity, forearm at chest level, solid contact with target, good follow-through…he didn’t even lose his hat!

  3. BTW, the news says this guy is probably on his way out. In addition to the takedown, he also clearly lied on his arrest report (saying the biker was aiming for him and knocked him onto the ground).

“A rookie NYPD cop was stripped of his badge and gun Monday after a stunning video caught him slamming a bicyclist to the ground in an apparent unprovoked attack.”

“A law enforcement source said the charges against Long would likely “go away” and another source predicted Pogan would be fired.”

  4. It’s bad enough when Wm.TM uses my line, now the village idiot does.

Well, it’s not official until I say it:
