At the Oregon Bike Summit in Salem today, I’m hearing all about the positive impact bicycles have on the state economy. The cash dollar angle of bicycle infrastructure should provide incentive for non-cyclists perhaps even legislators who cyclists have called dumber than a block of wood to support funding bike lanes and programs during this tight budget year. Bikes are basically a cheap date for transit planners – a little money invested in bike planning can have big results.
Check out these numbers: While the state transportation budget spent only $3.18 million on all Oregon-wide bike projects in 2008, in that same year bike-related industry created $90 million worth of economic activity just in Portland. Yikes.

“Hi, my name is Sarah ‘Terry Parker’ Mirk. I just want to tell everyone at the Bike Summit that I think it’s hi-larious when roadway users collide with each other. Here’s a link to my blog where I laugh at people getting injured.”
How do you think that would go over?
you guys outsourcing headlines to OregonLive?
Hey GLV, pardon my ignorance…
…but who is Terry Parker?
Graham: Google “Freeloading Pedal Pushers” with or without the quotes, and you’ll meet Terry Parker.
Thanks Matthew….
Wow, Terry Parker is a fucking idiot.
