The Dialog Direct chuggers ("charity muggers") have gotten a lot less pushy than they used to, but I'll still never give my credit card number to someone who accosts me on the street. It's so easy and so much more secure to donate online.
It reads now as if they are gonna run away from Anon in fear of bringing down the pest on them. What an hyperbole. The goodness and all the grace of god is in them, with an incredible amount of generosity. Good people can do better.
@Anon: seriously, what do you care what other people are feeling? Are you the judge jury and the executioner? Fucking Snob. Seriously. You write as if you have poo beneath your nose. I will give you a 6 month MAD magazine suscription so you can get some good education, for real.

Anon2 - Fine, give people money and drive away all puffed up from your wondrous generosity, but that guy you just gave $0.73 is laughing at you. You live in a fantasy land.
These "do you have a moment for gay rights?" people remind me of a nightmare I had in high school before coming out where I had to approach people in an auditorium and introduce myself as a homo and wait for their reaction. Some hugged me, some smacked me. I give them a very wide berth so I don't add to the misery of their job.
Other canvassers however I'd like to use as my personal stress dolls. They are worse than the homeless and smokeless smokers by leaps and bounds, except for those asshole street kids who sit around for the sole purpose of harassing passersby.
