Listen, Portland. We love you. And we love pizza. So the Portland Mercury is teaming up with our pals at Jim Beam, Tetra Cannabis, and dozens of local pizza shops to bring you the third annual Portland Pizza Week—$2 slices for everyone!
Each of the following restaurants in Southeast Portland will be offering a special $2 slice from April 16-21, 2018:
Baby Doll: A Slice of the Balkans
What’s on it: Ćevapi, ajvar, kajmak, and minced onion.
When you can eat it: 11 am-9 pm
What they say: "The pizza version of a classic, quintessential sandwich enjoyed throughout the Balkans. We made our own ćevapi—a casingless sausage created with beef, lamb, and pork—and placed it atop ajvar, a garlicky, roasted red pepper and eggplant spread. Then we topped it with house-made kajmak—a creamy, deliciously salty cheese. (You can sub mushrooms for ćevapi for a vegetarian version.)"
Straight From New York: The Big Apple
What’s on it: Applesauce base, slices of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp Apples, brown sugar and cinnamon granola crumble topping, caramel and streusel icing drizzle, and a honey apple glaze on the crust.
When you can eat it: 11am-close
Things to know: One slice per customer per day.
What they say: "Who ever heard of "dessert pizza"? You did! Just now. But "The Big Apple" is so much more than just dessert. It's breakfast, it's lunch, it's dinner—its goes great with coffee OR beer—and it's DOWNRIGHT DELICIOUS! And best of all, it's VEGAN! Prepare to be amazed."
What’s on it: Black bean tomato base, vegan nacho cheese sauce, soyrizo, black olives, tomatoes, pickled jalapeños, green onions, vegan sour cream, and tortilla chips.
When you can eat it: 11 am-midnight
Things to know: Limit two slices per person per order.
What they say: "Vegan stadium nachos on a pizza!"
What’s on it: New Mexico-style roasted calabacitas (zucchini, yellow squash, sweet corn, onions, garlic, and New Mexico green chile), and a blend of mozzarella and Mexican cheeses.
When you can eat it: 4-10 pm
Things to know: Slices limited to two per person.
What they say: "Hammy’s serves thick, Sicilian-style slices. Every slice is made to order and served fresh from the oven, and never placed under heat lamps or re-heated."
What’s on it: Smoked chicken thighs, sweet corn sauce, fire-roasted poblano peppers, roasted red bell peppers, red onion, Hatch chili crema, and scallion garnish.
When you can eat it: 11 am-close
Things to know: You can order a whole pie at regular price. Two slices per customer per visit.
What they say: "In keeping up with our Mercury Pizza Week tradition, we are putting together a smoked meat pizza. This year it’s chicken thighs, with a sweet corn sauce base. Roasted poblanos for a little spice, red onions and scallions, and a hatch chili crema to finish."
Denicola’s: Margherita Explosion
What’s on it: A margherita pizza made with buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, Mama Lil's Original Peppers, and finished with a balsamic vinaigrette glaze.
When you can eat it: Mon-Thurs 4-8:30 pm, Fri-Sat 4-9:30 pm
What they say: "Having participated in Pizza Week since it’s infancy, we take this event seriously at DeNicola’s. We have been perfecting this little party in your mouth for weeks. We sincerely love a sweet and salty flavor, so this is our take on the margherita."
What’s on it: Gyro-seasoned lamb and beef strips, tomatoes, feta, red onions, pepperoncinis, kalamata olives, and a drizzling of tatziki cucumber sauce.
When you can eat it: Noon-9 pm
Things to know: Slice limits may be used during busy times. Whole pies are available for $20. UFO Pizza has a $2 slice option EVERY DAY when you buy a pint.
What they say: "The Gyro-Gravity slice from UFO Pizza is so delicious you’ll feel like you're floating on air while discovering your new favorite pizza! "
What’s on it: Tandoori-spiced cauliflower, special secret sauce, herbs, androasted peanut.
When you can eat it: noon-close
Things to know: Two slice maximum per person. Vegan option available.
What they say: "Our slice blends an Indian flavor profile with Italian ingredients for a baller taste experience. The crust adds a layer of complexity, crunch, and delightful chewiness, all achieved through our top-secret dough recipe and 24-hour fermentation process. Based on the best-selling dish from our chef’s former endeavor (the Owl in S.C.), this slice is guaranteed to make you happy."
East Glisan Pizza Lounge: 'N Du Ya Like Me Now
What’s on it: House-made bacon and Calabrian chili salumi, soppressata, basil, house-made ricotta, poblano cream, and honey.
When you can eat it: 4-10 pm
Things to know: Limit of two slices per person. Whole pies are available, but not for the $2 per slice price.
What they say: "Dollops of ’Nduja-inspired house-made bacon and Calabrian chili goodness, with soppressata, basil, and house-made ricotta on a creamy poblano base. Finished with honey."
Pizano's: Stuffed Green Pepper
What’s on it: Thick slices of green pepper with crumbled ground beef and Italian sausage, topped with garlic bread crumbs.
When you can eat it: 11 am-6 pm
Things to know: Limit two slices per person.
What they say: "The classic comfort dish, twisted into a pizza. Crisp green peppers, sweet Italian sausage, and ground beef, with zesty tomato sauce on our thin crust."
Pizzicato: The Chimichurri Verde
What’s on it: Garlic and olive oil base, mozzarella, Painted Hills skirt steak, caramelized onions, roasted purple potatoes, and with house-made chimichurri.
When you can eat it: 11:30 am-9 pm
What they say: "Seared Painted Hills skirt steak topped with caramelized onions and roasted purple potatoes, finished with vibrant, house-made chimichurri."
What’s on it: Portland Cremery chèvre, mushrooms, garlic whips, red peppers, and an olive oil base.
When you can eat it: 11 am-10 pm
Things to know: Limit of two slices per customer.
What they say: "This is HOTLIPS Pizza's first-ever veggie slice submission for Pizza Week. It's a team-up with Portland Creamery, and features small-batch, fresh artisan goat cheese and Yamhill County mushrooms cooked in our house-made garlic whip pesto (whips from Persephone Farm) with red peppers."
What’s on it: Creamy mustard sauce, whole-milk mozzarella, roma tomatoes, and dill chicken.
When you can eat it: Mon-Thurs 11 am-11 pm, Fri-Sat 11 am-1 am
Things to know: Limit of two slices per customer. 18-inch pie available for $18.
What they say: "Hand-tossed fresh dough made daily, smothered with special creamy mustard sauce and topped with mozzarella, fresh roma tomatoes, and dill chicken. It's so dilly dilly!!!"
