At least five people have died after a shooter opened fire in the Capital Gazette newsroom in Annapolis, MD. It's unclear how many other people have been injured. A suspect has been taken into custody.
A crime reporter with the Gazette tweeted shortly after the incident:
A single shooter shot multiple people at my office, some of whom are dead.

There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you're under your desk and then hear the gunman reload

Gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire on multiple employees. Can't say much more and don't want to declare anyone dead, but it's bad.

This shooting comes one day after alt-right nationalist Milo Yiannopolis called for "vigilante squads to start gunning journalists down” in a text message to an Observer reporter. Of course, this also comes after Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened the press, calling journalists the "enemy of the people."
Trump has yet to comment on the shooting.
Shortly after the shooting, Baltimore police officers went to the Baltimore Sun newspaper (which happens to own Capital Gazette), out of precaution. Police in New York City have also been dispatched to a number of media organizations in NYC out of precaution.
There aren’t usually NYPD officers lined up at the entrance to the NYT building. One of them said it was a “precaution” after the newsroom shooting in Annapolis. pic.twitter.com/Y7cWULCe2i

A few responses from elected officials that aren't Trump:
Absolutely devastated to learn of this tragedy in Annapolis. I am in contact with County Executive Steve Schuh, and @MDSP is on the scene assisting @AACOPD. Please, heed all warnings and stay away from the area. Praying for those at the scene and for our community. https://t.co/bI6PdUjHfh

Phil, I can’t imagine what you and the entire Capital Gazette team are going through right now. Journalists shouldn’t have to fend off bullets in the newsroom while doing their jobs—this is not normal. Stay strong. https://t.co/hchUMIaMN1
