It’s becoming a rite of passage in the ever-blossoming Portland comedy scene: A local comedian develops their craft, builds a following, and then goes on to greater things in a larger market. And such is the case with Portland’s own Alex Falcone—the 2018 Portland’s Funniest Person winner, co-host of local comedy showcase Earthquake Hurricane, a featured performer on Portlandia, a Portland Mercury Genius of Comedy, and an infrequent contributor to our paper as well—who will be moving to Los Angeles in December to pursue fame and fortune.

When asked by the Mercury if there was any specific reason why he was choosing LA, Alex said, “I’m going for the same reasons most do: I’ll be focused on writing for TV, doing standup with the best in the world, and reuniting with those Portland greats like Ian, Curtis, and Bri who drilled a pilot hole into Hollywood for me.”
As he says, Alex is certainly not the first Portland comedian to experience local success and move on to a bigger market. He’ll be following such great Portland alumni as the Emmy-award winning Ian Karmel, Ron Funches, Bri Pruett, Caitlin Weierhauser, Mohanad Elshieky, Curtis Cook, and many more.
